Personal Opinions on Some Hot Topics in Chile

There are many topics that have been a subject of debate in Chile in the last few years. Chile, with its continuous growth and development, faces many problems and questions that are yet to be solved. Let me share my point of view on some of these hot topics and pressing matters. 

What is your opinion about the legalization of abortion in the 3 cases?

Abortion is a compelling issue in the last few years especially because of the Feminist movement happening around the world. In many first world countries abortion has been legal for a long time already, but Chile being relatively conservative country still due to the Catholic influence, it was just last year when the law on voluntary abortion in the following cases: when the mother´s life is at risk, when the fetus would not survive the pregnancy, and in case of pregnancy resulting from rape, was put in force. Though I am not really pro abortion due to my Christian background but I believe that women should be able to decide over their body, especially in these three cases. It is vital to consider the life of the mother as well since it will be her who will take care of the child. Her well being is as important as the unborn child. 

What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana and other drugs?

This is a hot topic of discussion not just in Chile but all over the world. In the past few years, many nations and states legalized the use of marijuana for recreative purposes which in my opinion is something the can be work out as well in Chile. Many medical benefits of marijuana are still being studied including its side effects. Marijuana due to its current status can only be bought illegally, and in many cases, most of those being sold are adulterated thus posing an additional health risk to the user. Legalizing Marijuana would be able to resolve this problem since it will have to pass rigorous tests and even quality control to ensure its safety. However, if it would be legalized, the consumption of marijuana together with alcohol and cigarettes should be only allowed in private places. Legalization of other drugs, should also be studied further but for marijuana, I don't mind its legalization.  

What is your opinion about the Chilean politicians?

Politics is more or less the same in every part of the world. There is nothing really special regarding Chilean politicians that I should tackle about, some are good and many are just bad, but it is the people who put them into their position. If we want change, it must start with each one of us. We must continuously educate ourselves as well as our family members about all the things that are happening around so that we may be able to decide who to put in power for own good and for our own future.

What is your opinion about women in the military?

Make love not war! Given a chance, I would love to abolish every military force in the world! It is impossible though. Women in the military plays a vital role. I don't think it is a big issue anymore since there are things that women can do better over men and vice versa. Women just like men are important part of our society in a whole so their presence in the military is necessary.
