Open University

Nothing in this world is permanent. Just like what we Filipinos say to couples when we are bitter with their relationship ''walang poreber'' (literally: there´s no forever). Some common knowledge can change and be updated anytime just as how things were taught before public and massive education became the norm.

In many universities around the world, most classes are done in-person but with technology many tertiary education institutions now offer online courses through an Open University System. Open University offers everyone equal opportunities to develop their abilities and to improve their level of education. They are also the ideal way to become eligible for pursuing a typical university degree afterwards through distance learning. This thus makes things easier for many people who find it difficult to include continuing education in their tight schedule, a good way to continue on with improving their capabilities and knowledge.

One of the mission of our University as translated to English, is as follows. ''The University assumes with vocation of excellence through the formation of people and the contribution to the spiritual and material development of the Nation. It fulfills its mission through the functions of teaching, research and creation in science and technology, the humanities and the arts, and the extension of knowledge and culture in all its breadth. To exercise these functions with the highest level of demand.'' Through an improved Open University program, the university can further help on developing the nation by extending its resources to those who can't do it in the traditional way. In 2015, the University of Chile, opened its own Open University program through UAbierta which allowed many professionals, students, out-of-school youths or basically anyone to pursue formative opportunities that can improve their capacity. However, this program is still in its infancy in comparison to many other Open University programs since its offers are still mostly limited to mostly arts and social sciences and are diploma courses. The University, and all its faculties and departments can work together on improving this system so it may be able to offer a lot more academic programs that is not limited to short courses and diploma programs but as well as undergraduate programs or even postgraduate academic offerings. Obviously, there are things that can't be done through distance learning but a hybrid program may do the trick, this would then make things a lot more easier to many who find it difficult to juggle work, family and other responsibilities with what they are studying and would lessen the expenses and time spent on travelling.
